BRUSQUE is a band I discovered live some weeks ago, opening for LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX... BRUSQUE are just TWO guys, Clément Duboscq on drums & Jefferson Grégoire on guitars/vocals, delivering a kinda hypnotic apocalyptic ambient doom/sludge/post-metal music that I can surely recommend to fans of bands like NEUROSIS, GODFLESH, AMENRA, CONAN... Their live-appearance made on me a real good impression, I was really surprised and captivated (almost fascinated) by the kinda "end-of-the-world" atmosphere we could feel on stage.. it crushed me, left me with that sensation I was released from that frustration caused by months of lockdown... BUT i was also curious to hear what the music was like on physical format, to see if BRUSQUE were able to reproduce here what they deliver on stage... and honestly, I didn't need too long to be convinced...
"What's Hidden Devours", their first full-length release perfectly reproduces what I felt when seeing them live.. It's a 33 minute-long whirlwind of suffering, anguish, desperation, the cathartic expression of a restrained ill-lived violence and a certain discomfort, keeping the listener under pressure... the brutal and heavy riffs follow one another unstoppably, giving the change to even heavier breaks, tirelessly leading you to a feeling of suffocation, well highlighted by the tortured, screamed, distorted vocals but also those relentless drums that mercilessly pound your brain...
What if I told you "What's Hidden Devours" is the most tangible expression of all that we have been able to live during these last times, the lockdowns, those restrictions, the loss of reference mark, the impossibility of projecting ourselves in the future, the absence of all social life ... it is in any case, expressed in a very beautiful way, convincing, authentic ... if you like to suffer in music, go for it !

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
