FATHER MERRIN / CLEGANE - Split LP - 2018

It's now a bit of an old release, but since the two bands are not that productive, it's still ok to say this is their latest release, so reason is good enough to do a review and share my impressions with you !
That split LP starts with CLEGANE, a band form Paris, formed in 2015.. their kinda of DOOM music is ... damn oppressive, disturbing, hovering and dark... 2 songs for this band for a total of 17 minutes taking influences not only in the traditional DOOM genre, but also into psychedelic occult rock and grunge as well ... it's really something to experience in my opinion, they have a great ability to make you dwell into a lethargic state thanks to throbbing guitars, sick & desperate vocals and hammering rhythms... a band to look for !
After these 17 minutes come FATHER MERRIN.. The band released in 2014 a first EP that made on me a great impression.. so i was very curious to hear new songs from them and I'm pleased to see they confirm all the good hopes i had in them ! 3 new songs/18 minutes that are the perfect continuity of the EP - the band still mixes traditional doom with sludge/stoner influences with those specific aggressive vocals ! Catchy as fuck ! They define their style as "possessed doom metal" and you can understand why when listening to the newer songs - like an improbable mix of CATHEDRAL, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SLEEP... It's by turn slow, throbbing, violent, oppressive, desperate but never boring.
CLEGANE opened to leave you in a lethargic state, FATHER MERRIN closed by burying you... what else can you expect from a good DOOM record ?
