It's a bit surprising to believe WHEELFALL started as a Stoner/Doom band when you hear the new album and their recent musical direction since the previous album "The atrocity Reports"... From that Stoner period, WHEELFALL keeps the raw heaviness of the style... for the rest, we are clearly into an Industrial Metal style - cold, relentless - whose major influences are in my opinion bands like SWANS, SCORN ("Vae Solis" era), GODFLESH, early-TREPONEM PAL or even HEAD OF DAVID ("Dustbowl" album).. got the picture ? It's harsh, repetitive, hammering, it takes you to the edge of your psychological distress and in the end, you beg for more ! That album sounds very professional in every points - production, composition, musicianship - and is very interesting, as it develops a concept thoughout the 8 songs, concept about the ability to refuse the world we live in and to stand/revolt/rebel against the system, as a simple citizen pushed to the very last limits of what is acceptable and ready to commit the irredeemable... all this musically put together in a remarkable way, the tracks alternating the coldest and disturbing atmospheres with breaks riddled with blasts, with a large part for the most intense heaviness ... Vocals are also impressive, as they perfectly express the need for urgency and this feeling of despair and exasperation ... they are filled with rage, frustration & anger...
Songs I'd recommend are the opening song "1000 Ways To Kill A Man" as it's HAMMERING you without mercy, the hypnotic "Sex/Oblivion/Sex", the depressive "Wisdom is More Erotic When Wasted", the very SCORN-like "Scorched Throats" ... but also "Saltwater", very ambiant in its first part, before it takes you on an incredible blast to illustrate this feeling of alienation/madness caused by the system.. and the closing one "Amplitude Death", very disturbing & dark..
WHEELFALL are definitely not just one more industrial band in the scene, they're for sure one to check out as fast as possible, they have a huge potential and if you're into the previously named industrial bands, I'm sure you'll add that "Spectre" to your collection ! One of the BEST albums of 2020 in my opinion !!!

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
