JENNER from Serbia ! YES ! If you know me a bit, you know what this band means to me, so don't be surprised : if you're looking for a bad review, you won't find it here ! This new release is simply excellent ! Despite the line-up problems which mean that the band today evolves as a trio after the departures of Mina, Nevena (consecutive bassists) and Andjelina (Vocals), JENNER has been able to renew itself and offer a truly top-notch production !
First the new line-up ... Marija is still on the drums, new bassist with Katarina and the biggest surprise, Aleksandra takes the vocal duty in addition of the guitar with a real class and great confidence. Her voice is more melodious than Andjelina but still powerful and suits the band's musical style perfectly !
Now to the new songs... I find in them a more melodious yet still very aggressive & catchy approach, it's even more solid than the previous album that had a "thrashier" fast-forward touch, the band has enriched its style and is not afraid to vary the style more & more, always with a concern for consistency ! The guitar job is simply impressive ! Biggest influences are still US Thrash bands of the Bay-Area but the style sounds more mature & professional now, it's just incredible to see how the band has improved ... I really love how the vocal combinations are done, especially the mixes of lead vocals & choruses, it's something NEW to JENNER and it kicks ass ! Two things to mention too.. SIGMA EPSILON's vocalist Emil appears on the song "Test Of Time" and his vocals bring more impact to the song, his vocal lines reminding me here of Joe of EVIL INVADERS... and again, are a perfect mix with Aleksandra's more melodious vocal lines... and the 3rd & last song of this Ep, "Young & Proud" is an amazing cover - paying tribute to 80's speed-metal legend DEMONIAC from Serbia.. 3 songs that prove you JENNER are still KICKING and ALIVE and from the recent progression, i can only think of an even more amazing next release.. I just can't wait !
Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... Passion grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
