ANGRI ALLY - True To The Roots (Germany - Crossover Punk - Interview with Sascha).
Express interview to help you discover as many of today's most interesting bands as possible - this time, ANGRI ALLY, Crossover Punk from Germany - Interview with Sascha (Bass).

- Hello ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
We´re "Angri Ally", a 4 member band with a melodic female frontline and a masculine rhythm department. We´re from the north-west of germany out of a small stretch of land which calls "East Frisia". We really don´t know how to describe our music or compare it to something else, but for the sake of simplicity we name it Crossover-Punk.
Different personalities creates different stories to get into music. To start with our drummer "Lolly" who is the one with a huge amount of experience out of over 40 years to hit the crap out of the drums. He started with different Punkcombos and later tried some other things like Metal, Rock, Funk, but for now he came back to his first love: Punk !
Ingrid is the complete opposite of Lolly. She started her career on the guitar 8 years ago in the age of 51 to focus on something new and let behind a personal radical change. Good for us that she always loved the guitar and practice and write new riffs in every free minute she has.
Anke said over herself that she was not to be called a singer (only the little warm waterdrops in the shower could enjoy her lovely voice) but her unfortunately to early deceased partner, who was the singer in a band, had other plans for her and so she had to sing with him everywhere and now she's a growling shouting personality on stage.
My story as a musician is compared to the ones from our other members a little lame. It starts like every bass career. All friends play guitar, maybe drums but they were in the need of someone who played the bass. Luckily for them, I always was in love for the deep rumbling tones and so I bought my first bass nearly 20 years ago. In this years I played in several different Bands from New-Metal to Beatles Covers and now I´m proud to be part of our actual combo.

- Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
5 years ago Ingrid visited some Jam-Session here in our region to gain experience and at one of them she met Lolly. They had a connection to each other and so they started to write the first songs together. As things become serious Lolly asked Anke if she could imagine singing in this constellation and after a while another friend (Alf) who lost his current band joined the team and became the first bass player. In this constellation they began with some "RATM" Covers and after a while they wrote 9-10 Songs for their first recordings. Some time later Alf decided to leave the band, cos he would make some kind of other music. In the need of a new bass player, the rest of the band decided to search for someone new and so I got in contact with them. At the first rehearsal I was iffy if that´s my kind of music, but after a few more rehearsals where we matched together it was a blast and the actuel lineup was born.

- Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
I know every Band means that from themselves, but our music is not so easy to describe. We have several different influences. Ingrid is mostly influenced by RATM, Pink Floyd TOOL etc., Lolly is mainly influenced by old skool Punk Bands but also likes funky rhythms. My main influences depend on my teenage years and the early 20s when I started to play bass. So bands like, Refused, Enter Shikari, Muse, etc., but Anke and I also like some kind of Drum & Bass or other electronic music (Prodigy are gods!). And so we try to mix up all these different styles and try to create something out of it. We can guarantee you an interesting journey through different sound landscapes where every song has his own WTF! moment.

- Lyrical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
The lyrics are very important. That's the main reason why it takes some time to create new songs. The lyrics were written by Anke and it's important for her that they convey a strong message. The main theme in our lyrics are our personal life and the external influences from people or events we get in touch with.

- About your latest release ?
We´ve recorded our upcoming and first release with Hanno from Dickfehler Studio in Aurich in november of last year. It was planned as a live session where we would filmed 2 for Hannos Youtube channel "Dickfehler Sessions" but short before that date the boys and girls from Grannys Milk ask us if we wanna make a Split-EP with them, and so we recorded some more songs, released the session clips and an EP too. At the moment you can hear these Songs on Youtube and on Bandcamp. In the future we wanna also upload them on Soundcloud (we´re not big Fans of Spotify, Deezer, Apple music, etc. - and that's GOOD ! Ed.) and we are in contact with some labels that you can get the Split-EP on vinyl with a great artwork (made by our Singer Anke). You can buy the digital and we hope soon the vinyl version (maybe cassettes) and some nice Shirts on Bandcamp if you want to support us.

- Future plans ?
We´re all a little bit older (38 - 59) - (Welcome to the veteran-club, I'm 55 ! Ed.) and so our ambition to become rockstars is not so keen, but we loved to play live and so we´re planning to play live as much as possible and at the moment we have a run. We´ll see what the future brings and maybe we play a little tour with 4-5 or some more gigs in a row.
We´re also working on new Songs, a Video for one of them and as I answered in your question before, we´re at the death´s door for our upcoming vinyl release.

- Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
To go on tour across Europe or maybe some other continent. It's not so fanciful, but to get all of us together for a project like this is not so easy. One other thing would be to play on some bigger festivals like Ruhrpott Rodeo, Sziget, Hellfestival, Woodstock (Poland), etc.

- Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
We don´t think in this category. Some worst moments happen when we forget the script, if someone spills some beer over our equipment, we stumble about our cables and crash into something or someone else. Things that happen, but we always try to make the best of every single situation.
But we can say that the best concerts we played until now were placed in the Netherlands and in Hamburg. The people there are more open minded for our kind of music, and it's always a blast to play there.

- Next live-appearance(s) ?

- Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
In the last 2 years we shared the stage with so much fantastic bands that we can´t name them all, but some of the become friends of us and these ones are, Granny´s Milk, Skull Harvest, Thrashing Pumpguns & Yard Bomb from Hamburg, Mattrack Attack from France, Shamotte and PsyFCK from Oldenburg and our rehearsal room neighbours Deichbrett.
In the past our local scene was nearly dead concerning live music, but we´re looking positively in the future, cos there some kind people who try to reanimate the scene with some little successes.

- Last word is yours..
Thanx to all the people who support us and make every gig a great experience (you know who you are)! We´re looking forward to do what we want as long as we can and hope we have also in the future so wonderful gigs and met so kind people as in the past few years.
Thanx Fabien for having us for this interview and your interest in our creativity. Maybe we´ll see each other in the future on our 4 day tour across France (Sure !! keep me informed - it'd be great to see you live & meet you all ! Ed.)

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
