RID OF ME - Cut the Ties ! (Usa - Post-Punk/Noise-Rock - Interview with Mike)
- Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
Mike McGinnis, I play in RID OF ME and run a small label called KNIFE HITS RECORDS. It really grew from skateboarding and going to local punk and hardcore shows... and Nirvana / Black Flag.
- Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
We're all friends from childhood and teenage years really, all have different stories about how we met each other but we're four best friends that go way back. This band was the answer to exactly how we always wanted to play and write in the past.
- Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Heavy, melodic noisy rock music. No need to listen at all cost! But if you like it, we're here.
- Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
I'm not the lyricist but I can speak generally about the lyrics Itarya writes and can say they're very personal, sometimes sociopolitical, but always are meant to be relateable and we hope you can find your own meaning through them.
- About your latest release ?
Our second full length came out in November of 2023 and that's the record we toured on in 2024 into this year. It's called Access To The Lonely and we're very stoked on it, it's very representative of the band on all levels. It's available on all formats through my record label KNIFE HITS. We're currently writing new songs for multiple releases and eventually a new LP. There's a lot of new material right now! We're starting to play some of it live.

- Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
To still be making records in 10, 20 or more years
- Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
We've played so many great shows I don't really know the absolute best. We've had the pleasure of playing and touring with some of our best friends bands and that's always the most rewarding thing we can do live. The WORST... We've luckily managed to avoid total disasters besides our vans wheel coming off one day in CT, so that day might count even though we missed the show hah.

Walmart Beach in Philly September 15th with a few of our favorite bands LATTER, MY WIFE'S AN ANGEL and NUDE (Sorry for the delays in publishing due to technical issue with the website - Ed.). And PUNKS FOR PALESTINE in DC in OCT with a million amazing bands !
