NYC's beast PRIME EVIL is releasing a new exclusive song after ten years - scheduled for release on August 28, 2025 and available to listen to in preview on ROUGH TIMES !
Watch out, the legend of the New York underground scene PRIME EVIL is back with a ruthless new song entitled “PLAGUEBORN,” marking the return to business of one of the most respected bands in the underground metal scene.
New song, but also a new line-up - guitarist/main songwriter and founder Mike USIFER tells us more:
Mike: "There was a rift between the former vocalist and myself while writing the album, so he decided to start a PRIME EVIL cover band while Antonio (drummer) and I continued to write the songs. My first reaction was to disband PRIME EVIL, but when I found out that the former member was trying to call his cover band PRIME EVIL, I decided that Antonio and I would not abandon the REAL PRIME EVIL, and that we would finish what we started out to do. We added a new bassist, Matt Mellon (HELL THEY RAISE, GHOST FIELDS), to record on the album; and Brian Harrigan (HELL THEY RAISE, GRID, ex-INHERUS) has joined the band as our vocalist. His vokills are sick as fuck and they fit the new music perfectly. Joe Merando (ex-SICKBAY, DIALATE, GOD PROGRAM) has joined the band as our live drummer. It’s been a real pleasure to work with musicians who actually like each other for a change. We all know each other, so there won’t be any surprise personality disorders or mental health issues to deal with".
New song - what was the trigger and inspiration for this new song? Compared to everything that has been written in the past, how would you describe this new song?
Mike: "The new material is heavier, more brutal, and more EVIL than ever. It is our first new material in 10 years, and it is a natural progression of where we should be; compared to all of our past releases and progressions. I have no desire to repeat the past. You can’t move forward if you don’t progress. As for inspiration…violence…violence towards someone I hate inspired the music".
And what about its content - any specific message ?
Mike: "Brian wrote the lyrics based on a plague that infects babies while in the womb, speeding up the gestation period so that they tear and eat their way out of the womb".
New title, and what next ? It's clear that the band is pumped up and ready to get back to business and maybe hit the stage again? Any concert plans?
Mike: "We are currently recording our next full-length album and recording some videos. Once the album is finished, we’ll start hitting the road to promote it".
Of course, it makes sense that a new album is in the works... any hints about its content or possible release date?
Mike: "This is without a doubt, the best music I’ve written to date. There were no constraints, and nothing but positive inputs from the other members. It is going to be our most brutal release yet. Like I said; it’s a completely natural progression from where we were 10 years ago, to where we are now. I’m not sure when the full album will be released, but we will be releasing singles and videos up until then. The tentative title is ‘BEYOND EVIL’ because this album is beyond anything that we have done previously".
While waiting for this new album to be released, ROUGH TIMES is proud to share this powerful new song from PRIME EVIL, which shows that the band has lost none of its death metal ferocity and thrash metal velocity (two essential aspects of the band's trademark sound). There's no doubt that this new track will delight long-time fans of the band and surprise many new ones!
The beast is back, all hails to the beast!

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
