- from the band's mouth -
"Do you remember Bearclaws (2014), Justice de Julia II (2016) and War (2018)? For us, those are three key songs that have made Brutus the band we are now today. These kind of songs are very challenging but they feel like coming home at the same time, they define who you are as a band. And, to us, What Have We Done is exactly that. A key song.
It started with just the guitar, the Moog minitaur synth (playing the bass), and one verse of the lyrics. But we felt this was something special that we couldn't mess up, there was this unspoken pressure to go further musically, dig deeper and go the extra mile. For some reason, this new piece of music feels like a turning point and an intersection at once.
The song embodies what was going on at the time of writing, in the middle of the pandemic. It is about suffering for too long and you have had enough. The verse echoes the mutual feeling we sometimes have as humans with too much going on in our heads and getting stuck in the same loop. (“Once more we sing along, to this never-ending song, once more we carry on the pain, what have we done”).
Our buddy Jonas Hollevoet shot the footage at Rock Herk and Lokerse Feesten, two Belgian festivals where we really feel at home. Our crew and a lot of people we love were there, and the crowd was amazing. Thank you, Jonas, you have made a beautiful video that fits the song perfectly.
What Have We Done is a very special one to us and we hope you can feel it too."

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
