- Hello ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
Hi ! We are Warbeat, very happy to answer your questions (Thanks so much - happy to have you in ROUGH TIMES - Ed.). For almost all of us, our passion for music began at school, in middle school, some of us began to listen to punk rock, some to metal music. At school, we began to play in the first bands, listen to more and more music, go to the first gigs. We can say that everyone's love for heavy music led to the fact that we are now playing in WARBEAT.
- Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
Warbeat was formed in 2018by guitarist Skvorets and former drummer Sam. Both met at a gig and decided that they wanted to play D-beat. At the beginning of 2019 there was the first gig, at the end the first EP was recorded. Line-up is Skvorets and Serega - guitars, Kez and Dimas on vocals, Gunya on drums and Max on Bass. Many members played in bands before, some still play in sidebands, for example, Kez in Rad Rat, Max in Dodsstank, Gunya in 4Scums, Signum, Absolute Resource, Serega in Komatoz and Agrishrot.
- Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
We all like Scandinavian D-beat, as well as metal, punk and crust. We are 6 people in the band and we all like different bands and music even in the same genre. This also affects the way we sound. Our texts are important for us, as we express our attitude to what is happening around us in the country and in the world as a whole. Perhaps our message is that all wars are evil, and especially nuclear wars as a policy can lead to this.
- About your latest release ? How can we get your releases ?
Our latest EP "The King Will Fall" 2025... we recorded it in the studio where we rehearse. The picture was drawn for us by our friend, who drew our logo. Right now we only have CDs of our previous WARBEAT album "CHAOS IMBECILES" from 2023. We are thinking of releasing old albums and splits on cassettes. We are also thinking of making a CD. Since we release small batches of cassettes, we don't always have our music on physical media.
- Future plans ?
We have recently released a new EP, now we are coming up with new tracks, it takes us a long time. In the fall there will be several local gigs and festivals at which we play. Also at the end of autumn we want to go to Minsk, Belarus. Plans for the future are the same as now, to play at gigs and festivals, if possible, to go somewhere, to come up with and record new tracks. I would like to go on a tour to other countries, but so far it has not worked, since there are 6 of us and not always everyone can go.
- Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
Our worst gig was a performance at a local festival when our guitarist was very drunk and in addition to the fact that he could not play, he disconnected himself from the equipment and trying to connect himself made noise and let snot, we were not much sober, so the songs became longer by 2-3 times, in the end we played only half of the set.
The best gig was probably in the city of Petrozavodsk, we were well received by the audience, there was a great sound and we played cool and hung out on the rest of the bands and the afterparty.
- Next live-appearance(s) ?
Our next performance will be in early October at a small local festival.
- Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Russia has an excellent local scene, although with the beginning of the war, many people and groups left, so now it is not so numerous.
Check Distress, Hungry Wolf, Gabra2, Nucleartid, Katafrakta, Herion, Dodui, Led By Fear, Warkarma, Combat Shock.
- Last word is yours..
Thank you vey much for your questions and interest in Warbeat, it was a pleasure to answer your questions ! (Спасибо, ребята. - Ed.)
Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
